Please bear with us as we slowly update this page :)  If you have any questions you think would be great to have on here, please feel free to email and let us know!

About "Office" Stuff:

Why are you taking so long to get back to me?

We are all volunteer, and get many emails a day. If you feel you were over-looked, please feel free to send us a quick email to "poke" us in case we have missed you!

Why do you want to know our drivers license?

A driver license gives us the abiltity to confirm you are who you say you are, and you live where you say you live. We do our best to ensure all adopters are truthful about the lifestyle they will provide for the animals they adopt from us.

Why are your adoption fee's so high?

Adoption fee's are discussed under "Adopt a Cat" and "Adopt A Dog".

Do you adopt to US residents?

YES! Although it does require some extra time and commitment. All dog need rabies shots to enter the USA. References are required, and homechecks can take extra planning :) In general, difficult dogs will NOT be adopted long distance, as we cannot offer as much support as needed.

That said, there is also an overwhelming dog over-population problem in the USA. Many dogs are often sent up to Canada to find refuge with rescues here. You can find almost any dog you are looking for closer to you, and we are more than happy to help you look! A great website for American adopters is www.petharbour.com.

 About "Dog" Stuff:

Where do your dogs come from?

Generally most of our dogs come from rural communities around Terrace and Hazelton BC. However, we also take on owner surrenders, dogs from Taiwan, dogs from high kill shelter in the states, and other cases as we are approached if we have the space and funds.

What is provided when adopting a dog?

All dogs have seen a vet and/or have a vet check included. All dogs are spayed or neutered and recieve a tattoo for ID if altered by our rescue. As needed, our dogs are microchipped, dewormed, parasite treated, and vaccinations brought up to date. Dogs from the USA are routinely heartworm tested. Any previous history we have is included and disclosed. Any other vettnig needed for a healthy, adoptable dog is provided by us - often times this includes treatments like dental cleanings, xrays, and medical treatments for infections and illness. We sometimes have leashes, collars, and kennels we can lend out, but prefer you have your own.

Can I adopt a certain breed of dog or are they all "mutts"?

YES! There are many purebred dogs that end up in rescue. If we don't have any we can help you contact purebred rescues that might :)

 About "Cat" Stuff:

Why are your cats so expensive?

See http://carriedthrough.com/adopt-a-cat.php

Why shouldn't I just get a free cat from Craigslist/Kijiji/BuySell/my neighbour?

See the above link. And then also realize that your cat may or may not have been seperated from their mom too soon or have illnesses that went untreated. As well, when you pay money to buy animals off sites like these, you are really paying an irresponsible pet owner or backyard breeder who is profiting off the lives of animals, and indirectly contributing to the deaths of many other cats that sit in shelters waiting for a home. Many times, a "free" cat will end up costing you more than one from a rescue, especially if you are planning to give them the mininal vetting they deserve, as listed on the above link.
